GENERAL INFORMATION 2013 GAMES

 

Arizona Senior Olympics is a program of the Arizona Lifelong Fitness Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and implementing fitness programs and activities for people fifty years and better.  The Games are open to anyone over fifty,  regardless of residency and are held in venues throughout the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.

 

DATES AND TIMES

The 2013 Arizona Senior Olympic Games will be held from
Saturday, February 16th through Sunday, March 10th
Check the sports in which you intend to participate for details.

 

WAIVER

All athletes are required to sign the Agreement, Release and Waiver of Liability. You must agree to the waiver during your on-line registration in order to complete the registration process. 

 

FEES

We have tried to hold the line on most fees and there is no increase in 2013 except in cases where the venue cost has risen and must be shared by participants.  For most sports, there is  $24.00 Registration * Processing Fee which includes credit card & registration software access fees.

GAME SHIRTS
  
Shirts will be on sale for $18 for S, M, L & XL, and $20 for 2X and 3X.   Shirts can be ordered at the time of registration or by phone up until March 1st.  If ordered by February 1st, shirts will be delivered to your first event or may be picked up at the ASO office.  Shirts ordered after February 1st must be picked up at the ASO office.  

PAYMENT

Registration is on line and payment must be by credit card.  Wells Fargo processes credit card payments via the Active Registration system.    

 

AWARDS

Gold, silver and bronze medals will be given to first, second and third place finishers. Ribbons will be given as is appropriate to the sport.  Awards are given Olympic style, giving attention and  honor to the winning athletes.  Awards are generally given out at the end of each event.  Medals not received at the award ceremonies can be picked up at the Arizona Senior Olympics office, during regular business hours,  after March 10, 2013

 

REFUNDS

Refunds are given only for bereavement or serious medical reasons and requests must be received by March 20.  A doctor’s note or funeral program is required for verification. 

 

INCLEMENT  WEATHER

Arizona Senior Olympics is not responsible for changes to the event program, postponements or cancellations due to inclement weather or other circumstances beyond our control.  In the event of inclement weather, every effort will be made to complete all games and events if possible.  No refunds will be given as a result of these circumstances.

 
AGE GROUPS

Competition is, in most cases, five year age groups such as 50-54, 55-59,

60-64, 65-69  etc.   Age divisions may be combined for better competition but medals will be awarded in five year age groups. In some sports verified skill level may be used in place of age groups.  See your sport description for details.  No one may receive a medal without competing.  Age is determined using the first day of the ASO Games (2/16/13) except for Basketball, Softball, Cycling & Volleyball which are determined by age on  12/31/13.


SPORTS RULES

Arizona Senior Olympics conforms to the rules of the National Senior Games Association for the sports which qualify for the national games.

Other sports will follow the rules of the national governing body of that sport except where there are exceptions due to age or safety.

 

CREDENTIALS

Any player unable to provide the required credentials at the site of the event shall be declared ineligible to compete until he/she can produce them.  Athletes are required to bring proof of age and their registration confirmation to check in.

 

INSURANCE

Every athlete is advised to carry proof of insurance in case of an emergency, injury or illness.  On site emergency medical assistance is available at many events.  Be sure to give us a name and phone number to call in an Emergency when you register.

 

SPORTSMANSHIP

We encourage all levels of competition in an environment of camaraderie and good sportsmanship.  Unsportsmanlike conduct is not accepted and may result in disqualification.

 

VOLUNTEERS

Arizona Senior Olympics could not exist without the help of the hundreds of volunteers who help with the Games.  Please show them courtesy and patience.  A “thank you” at the end of your event is their pay for the time and effort they spend helping produce the events.
